HOUSE TOUR: Rural Retreat
Designed to make the most of the sweeping valley views, our latest luxury custom build is a modern country homestead with timeless appeal.
With no size limitations on the sprawling Gidgegannup property, expansive open spaces and soaring ceilings are used to give the home an airy, spacious feel.
The rural setting comes to life through walls of windows, making for scenic and functional indoor/outdoor living.
“Our clients wanted a relaxing retreat that was in keeping with the rural setting, maximising the north aspect and capturing the valley and tree views,” Building and Design Consultant Cleve Riches explains.
“Their brief was for a spacious home that opened seamlessly into the outdoors and was set up to give presence.”
And that, it certainly has.
Country meets coastal with a nod to the Hamptons theme, with white Federation skirting boards, feature wall cladding and lining, ceiling cornices and architraves throughout, contrasting beautifully against rustic timber floors through the common areas.
The heart of the home centres around the open-plan living area with a 4.65m raked ceiling creating an incredible barn-style dining space, accentuated by the earthy floor to ceiling stone fireplace.
The high-pitched ceiling with exposed rafters flows from the dining out to the alfresco, with great connectivity through bi-fold doors and towering feature windows.
On either side of the dining space sits the kitchen and living room, with the same scenic outlook and the addition of overlooking the pool from the latter.
The classic kitchen has white matte cabinetry, high quality appliances and tiled splashback, with exposed white timber beams an eye-catching feature. The elongated island benchtop has been done in Caesarstone Organic White, while the surrounding benchtops feature Caesarstone in Raven.
An expansive gallery stretches from one end of the home to the other, and is much more than just a hallway.
“As the name suggests, the gallery is a place to show off art and collectables,” Cleve says. “It also features built-in book cases and recesses, and creates separation between the various zones of the home by simply using space.”
Leading off the gallery and adjacent to the entry hall the library has feature doors and timber window frames.
The master suite shares similar views as the living area to the pool and beyond through glass doors. Streams of light pour through leading to the dressing room and into the luxurious ensuite, with Caesarstone surrounding the built-in bath and double vanity, and marble touches with the floor and feature wall tiles.
Both guest suites are sizeable and have large walk-in robes and ensuites, each with stone benchtops.
Externally, the modern country look is carried through with Scyon Linea weatherboards, feature roof and eave HardieGroove lining and Colorbond metal roof in Shale Grey.
The house itself sits high on the property, something which was considered carefully due to the topography of the land and prevailing winds.
Verandahs surround the home, and a pergola leads off the alfresco toward the pool, making for some truly stunning outdoor spaces.
“To have the pool sitting up out of the ground looking down the valley into the green surroundings just works so well,” Cleve says.
With contemporary luxury touches mixed with plenty of rustic charm, this beautiful custom-built home is Riverstone’s version of a rural retreat.
